Deadly earthquake jolts Pakistan – IT for the rescue

You might be already aware of the earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter Scale struck in the north of Pakistan on the morning of 8th October 2005, 8:52am (GMT+5), followed by several after shocks just 80 kms north of the Pakistan capital, Islamabad. Areas of Kashmir in Pakistan are most severely affected by the earthquake. Areas of Kashmir in India are also affected. It is estimated that over 30,000 are feared dead and more than 40 thousand injured. There is a massive disruption in the region including landslides and collapsed houses.

We were in Karachi when the earthquake hit. We hear the news from television, and rushed to call our friends in Islamabad and my elder brother in Rawalpindi, areas close to earthquake epicenter. The telephone networks were already choked by that time. We were able to contact them after many hours, and found them okay by the grace of Allah.

In the meantime we started a combined effort with help from FUUAST by setting up an information website www.earthquakepk.com which have links to organizations accepting donations, emergency inquiry telephone numbers, and appeals by organizations that are operating in affected areas.
Visit The Website: www.earthquakepk.com

I request you all to take your part by donating for the relief efforts.

Thank you,
